Rees was in the organization of the Ebenezer Baptist Church, Amite, Co., MS on May 9,
1806, and the old church minutes show that he came from WelchNeck Church , SC. Rees
was a delegate to the Cole Creek Church in August, 1806, whenthe MS. Assoc. was
formed. Later he had trouble in the church and was dismissed but was restored in 1813. He
was later given another letter of dismissal from Ebenezer onSept 4, 1813.
He was a delegate from Antioch Church to the MS. Assoc. in 1814,1815, and 1817.
Antioch Church joined the MS. Assoc. in 1814, and was located inMarion Co. where the

not available which is unfortunate, for they would give valuable information. The earliest
minutes begin in 1828.
Rees entered 320 acres of land in 1811 in Section 36, Township 3North, range 13 East, in
what was then Amite Co., but is now Marion Co. just belowColumbia, in the Jamestown

by Fischer p 38.
His brand was registered July 4 , 1812, upper squrae in theright ear and split in the left ear,

Personal tax rolls of Marion Co. through 1818 show that Reesowned several hundred acres
of land on the Peral River and from 7 to 12 slaves.
He was one of the early Civil Officers in Marion Co.MS...serving as "Justice of the Quorum". (Source: "Marriage Records of Marion County, Mississippi"
by Upton-Foreward-Louisiana State Library, Baton Rouge, La.)
Rees is not shown in the 1819 tax roll, so it is assumed that he left Marion Co. in 1818 and
moved to Louisiana, where he is assignee of more than two thousand acres of land along the Calcasieu River in St. Landry Parish.
"Goodspeeds Memoirs" list Rees Perkins as one of the early settlers of Southwest LA.
The Obituary of Rees Washington Perkins lists all of hisbrothers and sisters.
