Samuel PERKINS

[]

Samuel Perkins son of James Perkins, served as constable of Marion Co. MS in 1816 and as County Treas. in 1817. County land records show that Samuel and his wife Penelope deeded land to James Pittman on Dec 7 1823, described as Northwest quarter Section 10, Township 2, Range 13 East, in Jan 1822 along Ten Mile Creek.
Samuel is carried on the personal tax rolls for the years 1823, 1824 & 1825.Marion County, where he is shown to have 169 acres on Ten Mile Creek and 3 slaves. He is not found in Marion Co. subsequent to 1825. It is possible this could be the same Samuel Perkins who is shown in the 1830 census for Copiah Co MS.
There is a Samuel Perkins who registered a brand in the Columbia, MS Courthouse on October 30, 1812. Since Rees' son Samuel was not born until 1810 it is most likely that this Samuel, Rees' brother was that Samuel.
In Brand Book B the description reads: Samuel Perkins - a long slope in the under part of the right ear and a swallowfork and underbit in the left. (Actual brand in " Perkins" by Fischer p. 38) 117
